Democrat & Chronicle Staff Report • 4-28-10

The Rochester RazorSharks
two-year reign at the top of the Premier Basketball League has come to an end.

Lawton-Fort Sill started the game on a 15-2 run and never trailed as the Cavalry crushed the RazorSharks 124-108 to win the 2010 PBL title Tuesday at the Great Plains Coliseum in Lawton, Okla.

The Cavalry won the best-of-three series 2-1 after dropping the first game of the series Thursday in Rochester. It was the first time the RazorSharks were eliminated from the playoffs in five years of existence.

Rochester had problems all night defending the transition game of the Cavalry. Lawton-Fort Sill was running from the start and jumped out early. The RazorSharks trailed by 14 points at one point in the first half but eventually cut the lead to 36-33 after a three-point play by Marlin Johnson. Elvin Mims then scored eight straight points as the Cavalry went on an 11-point run. Rochester did not get within 10 points the rest of the way.

Mims finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Cavalry, whose largest lead was 24 points.

Keith Friel and Jermaine Tate each scored 14 points to lead Rochester. The RazorSharks averaged 116 points per game but only scored more than 100 points twice in four games against the Cavalry.

Lincoln Smith, who averaged 13 points per game in the regular season, did not hit a basket until midway through the third quarter. He finished with six points.
