Members of the John Betlem Heating & Cooling management team and players from the Rochester Razor Sharks visited Shepherd Home in Penfield today (Wednesday, May 5) to present a check for $2,861 to director Betsy Inglis.
When John Betlem signed on as a Razor Sharks sponsor at the beginning of the season that just ended, Vice President and General Manager Kathy Betlem agreed to pay the company’s favorite charity a dollar for each point scored during the regular season and post season.
John Betlem Heating & Cooling has been an active supporter of Shepherd Home since it was built in 2005. The company donated the heating and air conditioning system and the generator, as well as the labor to install them. Kathy Betlem notes that most of the Betlem family lives in the Penfield area, and that the comfort care facility has served members of her family.
Razor Sharks players Keith Friel, Jerice Crouch, Lincoln Smith, Marlin Johnson, along with Head Coach Rod Baker, brought an autographed basketball for the home. Jim Betlem, Steve Betlem, David Betlem, Darryl Fishbaugh and Kathy Betlem presented the ball, with the check taped to it, to Inglis.
Kathy Betlem explained, “Supporting one of Rochester’s newest organizations, the Razor Sharks, was a natural for one of Rochester’s old organizations. My grandfather, John Betlem, established the company in 1941, and we are now in our fourth generation of family involvement. We are preparing to celebrate our 70th anniversary next year. This community has been good to us, so we want to give back to the community. For the past few months, we have been able to give back to two organizations, our community basketball team and a wonderful facility that provides special care for special people – Shepherd Home. That way, we all win.”
Established at the beginning of WWII, John Betlem Heating & Cooling today is one of the area’s most technology-oriented comfort companies. Besides traditional heating and air conditioning services, John Betlem also offers indoor air quality services and the Home Performance by ENERGY STAR® program to Rochester and the surrounding area. More than half of its technicians are NATE Certified, and the company prides itself on never charging overtime. |
